The four sales personality types

Every rep has a natural way of selling. The sales personality test shows which of four styles comes most naturally to you, and the moments where another style would serve you better. Each one has a strength to lean on and a habit to watch.

The Relationship Builder

You sell through trust. Buyers enjoy talking to you, open up quickly and come back because they like working with you.

Strength: People trust you and want to buy from you. You remember the details, make buyers feel heard and turn customers into fans who refer you.

Watch out: You can avoid the hard ask. Keeping things friendly can mean discounting too fast, letting deals drift or not asking for the next step.

The Straight Talker

You sell through clarity. You say what you think, get to the point and respect the buyer's time.

Strength: You're clear, direct and save everyone time. Buyers always know where they stand, and you're not afraid to ask for a decision.

Watch out: You can push before the buyer is ready. Moving too fast can feel like pressure, and you may miss what's really holding them back.

The Problem Solver

You sell through expertise. You know your product inside out and love finding the right fix for every buyer.

Strength: You know your product and love finding the fix. Buyers see you as a helpful expert, and you make it easy to picture the solution working.

Watch out: You can pitch before you understand the problem. Jumping to features or demos too early can mean solving the wrong thing.

The Question Asker

You sell through curiosity. You dig beneath the first answer to find the real problem, the real budget and the real decision maker.

Strength: You find out what's really going on. Your questions uncover needs buyers hadn't said out loud, so your proposals land and deals rarely surprise you.

Watch out: You can take too long to get to the point. Too many questions can feel like an interview, and buyers may want you to share a view.

How Virti helps your sales team practise

Knowing your style is the start. Getting better means practising the conversations that matter before you are on a live call. Virti's AI role-play platform gives every rep a safe place to do exactly that, as often as they need. See how it works for sales training.

Practise with a realistic AI buyer

Reps hold realistic role-plays with an AI Virtual Human, rehearsing objection handling, cold calling, negotiation and closing before they ever speak to a real customer.

Instant, specific coaching

Detailed analytics track empathy, confidence, tone, pacing and objection handling, so every rep gets useful feedback straight after each conversation.

Faster onboarding

New hires practise on demand from day one. No manager time is needed to run sessions, and progress is tracked so managers know when reps are ready.

A consistent sales method

Build scenarios around your own playbook so every rep delivers your process, messaging and objection handling the same way.

Sales personality test: common questions

What is a sales personality test?

A sales personality test shows the approach you naturally lean on when a conversation gets difficult: building rapport, being direct, solving the problem or asking questions. This one groups those habits into four sales styles: Relationship Builder, Straight Talker, Problem Solver and Question Asker.

How does the sales personality test work?

You get 10 real sales moments, such as a discount request or a deal that has gone quiet, with four possible replies to each. Every reply matches one of the four styles. Your result shows the style you chose most often, your strongest moment and the skill to practise next.

Is the sales personality test free, and how long does it take?

It takes about 5 minutes. The test is free, and you don't need to sign up or give an email address to take it.

Is there a right answer?

In each moment, one reply tends to work best in a typical B2B sale. That is how the test picks your strongest moment and your next skill to practise. No style is wrong, though. The aim is to know your habits and choose the right approach for the buyer in front of you. It is a short self-assessment for practice, not a clinical or psychological assessment.

How can I use the results with my sales team?

Ask everyone on the team to take the test, then compare styles to see where the team is strong and where to coach. Pair it with practice: our free pack of 8 sales role play scenarios gives you ready to run conversations to try out.
